Gneiss Lake to Horsetail Rapids

We awoke to a beautiful day.  The sun was shining with puffs of white clouds scattered across the sky.  We left our campsite in Gneiss and continued west towards Saganaga Lake.  We encounter a rugged portage and some beautiful scenery at Horse Tail Rapids.

About Bill

I grew up in Alaska spending as much time outdoors as possible. Camping, hunting, and flying consumed much of my free time. Upon moving to Minnesota I found the BWCAW to be a place that allowed me to escape to the wilderness. I love being able to share this amazing place with all of you. I hope you enjoy the shows.

    Hey Bill!

    I have really enjoyed your podcast this year. It’s a great production and brings all the sights and sounds into our living room every time we view. When was the most recent production done of the Gneiss to Saganagana? I’m hoping you say Sept. or maybe Aug. We were up at EP 16, Nina Moose River through Nina Moose Lake and Agnes Lake into Lac LaCroix the first week in August. We visited Warrior Hill on Irving Island in Canada which was loaded with blue berries in Aug. There is also a beautiful falls which we did not get to see this time, called Curtain Falls and Rebecca Falls. Hopefully you can make a trip there and film that. Thanks so much.

    @Jerry Stanley:

    Hi Jerry,

    Great to hear from you!!! Thanks for writing I really appreciate it. Our trip from Gneiss to Sag was right around the end of June the beginning of July. We took 4 trips into the BW this summer. One the end of May, one the end of June, one the end of July, and one mid August. The trip that brought us through Gneiss and Sag was our second and longest traveling roughly 97 miles in 7 days. We had some pretty brutal weather the first 4 days, but the skies cleared off for the second half which was nice. Really any day regardless of the weather is a great day if your paddling I think. Its interesting with all of our trips we have yet to run into someone who watches our shows.

    We have been to Curtain falls on one of our trips last summer. The water was super high flowing over the falls, so it was quite an experience. If you’d like you can check it out here..

    Warrior Hill is in this episode…

    We never made it over to Rebecca falls. We had been told that paddling up there may not be legal with only a permit from the United States side of things. We weren’t sure and since we were shooting video we wanted to be sure to stay on the legal side of things. We hope to make it there some time on a future trip.

    I hope you continue to enjoy our episodes. We love to make them and getting feedback from viewers brightens our day.

    Have a nice rest of the week.

    Bill

    Hey Bill! I liked the way you included the sound of the water while you were paddling. Nice addition.

    Keep up the great work!
