With the temperatures hovering just above zero we drove out to the Hegman Lake entry point. With our snowshoes and packs on we headed down the trail. The sun was shining down through the trees, and when we dropped onto the lake it was just georgeous out. We encountered a little slush below the top layer of snow on the lake, but we made great time on our way out to the pictographs. We hope you enjoy our first winter episode.

Hey Bill……great episode…..bravo! As a long time snow lover, I really enjoyed listening to the crunch of snowshoes on snow and the beautiful low light and shadows that makes wintertime in the northland so very special! I also like those time lapse sequences….they really add to the show. You’ve outdone yourself once again!

Just watched the bwcacast on snowshoing out to Hegman, coming up next weekend from Bemidji and wondering how long it takes round trip from Entry point to Pictographs! Great cast, loved it

@Ann Campbell: Hi Ann, if i recall correctly, I believe it took us about 3 hours round trip. Mind you I was doing some filming along the way which involves some back tracking and frequent stops. We didn’t really stop and rest at all along the way, but did spend some time at the pictographs. Its a great little trip to take. I’d bring a headlamp along with just in case your caught in the dark on your way out. Don’t forget some snacks and something to drink, as well as layers so you can regulate your heat.
