Ramshead Winter Camping

by Bill

The temps are in the upper 20s and the sun is shining.  With a three day weekend we head into Ramshead Lake.  We catch some nice fish and spend the weekend enjoying the great weather.  There were fresh wolf tracks around the island we were sleeping each morning.  Jesse and I did a little skiing on Saturday.  It sure was a great winter trip.

We had two sponsors that helped make this trip possible.  The first was Piragis North Woods Company.  They are an outfitter for both summer and winter trips.  They provided us with a SnowTrecker Tent and a wood stove for keeping our tent nice and warm.  They offer guided winter and summer trips along with all of the gear and supplies you may need.  They are very down to earth people who are excited out spending time in the wilderness.  If your looking for someone to get you started on your first trip into the BWCAW or your 100th Piragis will help make it a fun successful adventure.

The second sponsor was Black River Sleds.  They are the creator of the Snow Walker Toboggan.  We recently did a HowTo episode on putting together one of Black River Sleds toboggan kits, and it was this sled that we used on our winter camping trip.  These toboggans are durable and designed for one purpose… Getting your gear into the back country.  If you are looking for a great toboggan for your next winter camping trip checkout Black River Sleds, they will set you up with the perfect solution.

Nice episode Bill. Loved the whole thing. That was an impressive northern pike your friend caught!

I think Dad and I are going to have to join you sometime for a winter camping trip!

Thanks for taking time to do these episodes. They’re great!

Venison cheddar-wurst? Steak? Northern? You guys definitely eat well. I think I’ll have to come north in only for the food. Maybe you’ll ship the cheddar-wurst for me? Nom, nom, nom!

I’ve never been winter camping, but it looks like a great time. I’ve been working on my friend to get him interested. I’ll send him this podcast. Hopefully by February he’ll be ready to go.

    Great show as always.
    Chris
