Snowshoeing Into the Devils Cascade – The Show

by Bill

We continue our trip on the Little Indian Sioux under sunny skies.  Our goal is to experience the Devils Cascade in the winter.  Jesse and I had visited this beautiful place last summer and were itching to see how snow and ice would transform the shaded rapids.  Along the way we find where a bird had made a kill in the snow.  Its wing prints easily identifiable.

When we finally made it into the Devils Cascade the hike was totally worth it.  Clumps of white snow scattered through the running water.  Giant icicles hanging from the cliff wall, and beams of sunlight filtering through the tree branches.

Can’t say “THANKS” enough, friend! Thanks for using my piece, “Pinwheel Dance” in this video. The mix of my music and your beautiful video footage go very well together. Take care! Dan. http://dantharpmusic.com

    Hey Dan,

As always we love using your music in our shows. Please keep us posted on any new albums you create. 🙂 I bought your current albums and listen to them on my ipod while driving to work. Not only makes for a great drive, but also gets me thinking about canoeing in the BWCAW. If anyone else would like to do the same check out Dan’s website or you can find him in the iTunes Music Store.

You are using some interesting techniques! Like the way you incorporated the maps. Also enjoyed the fade out technique to give the impression of continuing on down the trail.

Quite the snow shoe highway you’ve got going there!

I too love the choice of music. Dan’s got a great style!

Great video. So beautiful… What time of year was this shot in? Late winter, early spring?

@Tim: Hi Tim. That trip was taken in mid February. We had a beautiful sunny day. It turned out to be quite the day trip on snow shoes with about a 12 mile round trip. I was pretty wiped out by the end of things. I think if you were going in on skies you might have better luck. There were a couple guys camping at the cascade, so we were able to use their track to follow which packed down most of the snow. I haven’t been out there this year yet to see if anyone has been out there yet. I was thinking about going out for a day trip in the area, but wasn’t sure if the river ice would be safe yet or not. We’ve had some cold weather which should make it safe, but I’ve not had any confirmations on this yet. If you or anyone else knows of the safety of the ice we’d really appreciate an update on that.

Thanks for posting. We really appreciate it.

    Bill
