Portage Maintenance – The Show

After exploring around Curtain Falls, we headed back down the portage to our canoes. Along the way we ran into Melissa and Chelsea, two young ladies working for the Forestry Service maintaining the portages.  One had an axe, and the other had a shovel.

They were kind enough to do a short interview with me about their jobs.  After talking to them it sounded like they had quite the gig going.  Eight days in the BWCAW at a time out checking and maintaining the porages in the area.  I can think of a lot worse ways to spend a summer.  :)

About Bill

I grew up in Alaska spending as much time outdoors as possible. Camping, hunting, and flying consumed much of my free time. Upon moving to Minnesota I found the BWCAW to be a place that allowed me to escape to the wilderness. I love being able to share this amazing place with all of you. I hope you enjoy the shows.

Another well done segment. What great summer job it would be to work in a national or state park or forest. They give me a place to lie my head at night and I’m theirs for a season! Keep up the good work, Bill and Erin!
